Meet: World shortest man and woman

Chandra Bahadur Dangi, 72-year-old Nepalese is the world’s shortest man and Jyoti Amge, 18-year-old Indian is the world’s shortest woman met each other to celebrate the organization which made them famous and flashed in headlines last winter when they were got their titles by the Guinness World Records.

Chandra and Jyoti may be generations apart but were joking and laughing as they posed for photos with the new book, both dressed in traditional outfits from their native countries.

The photo shoot for the release of the book gave them another record to add to their list – it is the first time the world’s smallest man and woman have met in recorded history.

 

The book placed between them looks gigantic compared to the pair, but is in fact only 1ft high.

Jyoti took the title on her 18th birthday on December 16th last year.

The teen from Nagpur of central India has a form of dwarfism called Achondroplasia which means she will stay 2ft0.7in for the rest of her life.

Despite her size she has big dreams and has already starred in a number of Bollywood films and is pursuing a career in entertainment.

She is set to visit the UK in September to help launch the new book and says she can’t wait.

‘Since being recognised by Guinness World Records I have been able to visit lots of different countries. I love travelling.

‘I have visited Japan and parts of Europe and now I can’t wait to visit the UK.'

Whilst the bubbly teenager is looking forward to conquering the world, 72-year-old Chandra’s biggest moment in his career as the world’s shortest is the publication of the new book

‘I’m very happy that my name will be written in a book. It’s a big thing for my family, my village and my country.’

Mr Dangi hails from a small village called Rhimkola, 250 miles west of Kathmandu where, until recently, he spent his entire life.

He made headlines across the globe when he received his title in February this year.

He left his village for the first time in his life to fly to the capital of Kathmandu to meet and be measured by Guinness World Records officials.

At 21.5in Mr Dangi is also the shortest man in history, breaking the previous record of India’s Gul Mohammed (1957–97) who was 22.5in tall.

The official authority on record-breaking achievement is set to release its the 57th edition of the world’s best-selling copyright book, Guinness World Records 2013.

The book has sold 120 million copies to date and Guinness World Records receives more than 1,000 applications each week and has a specialized team of multi-language record managers and adjudicators who travel the globe to verify official record attempts.

The boy who was born with no eyes

• Doctors found he had an eye under the skin on his left socket
• They cannot remove skin because the eye underneath has no lens
• His parents hope he will be able to have an artificial eye fitted once he is 16

The boy, Marwanijung, was born with no eyes; but he is happy when lighting a torch at his face!

Doctors in China have discovered that he has an eye under the skin - but it is too sensitive to ever be exposed.

The parents were devastated when their son was born with only smooth skin in the sockets where his eyes should be.

But when father Madamihan and mother Salamu, both 26, took the child from their small community to a hospital in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, they were offered a glimmer of hope.

Yes! Doctors told them their son loved the torch because he actually had a left eye, but it was blocked by skin!!

'He is eager to see light, and we pray everyday that he could see the light,' said the boy's father.

Sadly, experts at the Army 474 Hospital said the baby was not suitable for surgery because his eye has no lens.

Even if the surgery exposed his left eyeball, he would not be able see anything.

Doctors suggested that the boy could be suitable for artificial eye installation once he reaches 16 years old.

There are various reasons that children are born with no eyes.

Baghdad turned orange by Enormous Sandstorm (Photos)

A thick layer of dust blanketed Baghdad today (22 May 2012) as one of the heaviest sandstorms in years hit the city a day before it is due to host global talks with Iran about nuclear weapons.

The sky turned an ominous orange as sand from the surrounding desert blew into the Iraqi capital and caused mayhem.

The international airport was closed, businesses were forced to shut and hundreds of residents – particularly those with asthma - went to hospital with breathing difficulties due to the choking air.

The spring storm also appeared to hamper military flights.

None of the helicopter patrols that regularly roar over the city of six million people seemed to be airborne.

Sandstorms usually occur about twice a year in Baghdad, which is shielded from the desert by a thin strip of arable land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

But this latest one comes as a very unfortunate time as Iran and six world powers are due to meet in the city tomorrow for negotiations over Iran's nuclear intentions. The storm means envoys may struggle to reach the Iraqi capital.

சீனாவும், இணையதளங்களும்!

சீனா என்று பொதுவாக அழைக்கப்படும் சீன மக்கள் குடியரசு கிழக்காசியாவிலுள்ள நாடாகும். ஆசியாவிலேயே  மிகப்பெரிய பரப்பளவை கொண்ட நாடான சீனா உலகில் ரஷ்யா, கனடா ஆகிய நாடுகளுக்கு அடுத்தபடியாக பரப்பளவில்  மூன்றாவது பெரிய நாடாக கருதப்படுகிறது. 

சீனா பொதுவுடமைத் தத்துவத்தை கடைபிடித்து வரும் நாடாக இருந்தாலும், சீன அரசின் நிர்வாகக் கொள்கைகளுக்கு ஏற்பவே ஏதும் செய்ய இயலும். 

இணையத்தின் வளர்ச்சி மற்றும் அதன் தாக்கம் சீன மக்களுக்கு நிரம்பவே பிடித்திருந்தாலும் அரசின் நிர்வாகக் கொள்கைக்கு ஏற்ப தான் இணையத்தை அவர்களால் உபயோகிக்க முடியும். 

ஆம்! இணைய தணிக்கை (Internet Censorship) என்பதை சீன அரசு சட்டத்தின் மூலம் கட்டாயமாக்கி உள்ளதால், அரசு அனுமதிக்கும் இணைய தளங்களை மட்டுமே சீன மக்களால் காணவும் உபயோகிக்கவும் முடியும்!! 

இந்த இணைய தணிக்கை முறையினால்தான், இரண்டொரு வருடங்களுக்கு முன், Google -லுக்கும் சீன அரசுக்கும் கருத்து வேறுபாடு ஏற்பட்டு .... Google தன் தொடர்பை சீனாவிலிருந்து துண்டித்துக் கொண்டது!

அப்படியான அந்த இணைய தணிக்கை விதிகளின்படி, உலகின் பல இணைய தளங்கள், மக்களால் அனுபவிக்க முடியாதபடிக்கு, சீன அரசால் Block செய்யப்பட்டு உள்ளது. அப்படி Block செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள சில முக்கிய தளங்கள்: 

Blogger Blogs, Facebook, Google Docs, Picasa, Twitter, Youtube என பட்டியல் நீளுகின்றது.

இந்திய – சிறீலங்கா பாணியில் இத்தாலிய பாராளுமன்றத்தில் அடிதடி மோதல்

ஐரோப்பிய ஒன்றியத்தின் புதிய பொருளதார திட்டங்கள் வெற்றி பெற வேண்டுமானால் அதற்கான சில உத்திரவாதங்களை  இத்தாலிய அரசு  கொடுக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது. இத்தகைய உத்தரவாதம் இல்லாவிட்டால் புதிய திட்டங்களை அமல் செய்ய முடியாது.  இதை நிறைவேற்ற கடுமையான மீதம் பிடித்தலை இத்தாலி மேற்கொண்டாக  வேண்டும்.
இதுகுறித்த விவாதம் பாராளுமன்றில் நடைபெற்றபோது எதிரணியின் இரண்டு உறுப்பினர்கள் மற்றைய ஆளும் (கூட்டணிக்கட்சியான லீகா நோட்) கட்சியினரை நோக்கி தமது   கைகளில் அகப்பட்டதை எல்லாம் எடுத்து வீசினார்கள். இக்கட்சியின் வயதான தலைவர் 39 வயது பெண்ணை தேடி ஓடியுள்ளார் என்று இன்னொருவர் திட்டினார். இதனால் அடிதடியில் இரு தரப்பும் இறங்கினார்கள்.
பொருளாதாரப் பிரச்சனையை தீர்ப்பதைவிட இவர்களுடைய பிரச்சனையை தீர்ப்பது பாரிய பிரச்சனையாக மாறியது.

போரில் உதவுவதற்காக அமெரிக்காவிடம் ஆண்டுக்கு ஐயாயிரம் கோடி டாலர் வாங்கும் பாகிஸ்தான் மறைமுகமாக தலிபான்களுக்கும் உதவுகிறது என்ற உண்மை ஆதாரங்களுடன் வெளிச்சத்துக்கு வந்திருக்கிறது. பாகிஸ்தானின் உளவு அமைப்பான ஐஎஸ்ஐ எப்படி இரட்டை வேடம் போட்டு இரு அரசுகளையும் ஏமாற்றி வருகிறது என்பது சுவாரசியமான கூடுதல் தகவல்.

ஆப்கானிஸ்தான் மற்றும் இந்தியாவுக்கு எதிரான நாசவேலைகளை திட்டமிட்டு நிறைவேற்றும் பொறுப்பை எஸ் விங் என்ற பிரிவிடம் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த எஸ் விங் 'எவருக்கும் பதில் சொல்ல அவசியமில்லாத வானளாவிய அதிகாரத்துடன் செயல்படுகிறது; அதனிடம் கணக்கு வழக்கு இல்லாமல் ஏராளமாக பணம் புரள்கிறது’ என்பது கசிந்த ரகசியங்களில் ஒன்று.

‘வெளிப்படையான நிர்வாகத்தில் மட்டுமே அனைவருக்கும் நீதி கிடைக்கும். அனாவசியமான ரகசியங்கள் தவறுகள் நடக்கவே வாய்ப்பளிக்கும்’ என்பது அந்த இணையதள நிறுவனத்தின் தத்துவம்.

அதேவேளை சம்மந்தப்பட்டவர்களே இப்படியான இரகசியங்களை கசிய விடுவதும் ஓர் இராணுவ உத்தியே என்பதையும் திருவாளர் பொதுஜனம் சிந்திக்க இடமிருக்கிறது.
