Make Windows Run Faster

Make Windows Run Faster

There are plenty of tips spread over internet to make Windows XP run faster; some are obviously good tips and others just wasted efforts. However, I'd like to share the way, which I took full advantages for Windows XP, how to run faster.
The first thing is to look at the task bar, which accompanied with the system clock, and identify how many programs are opened. If you see a bunch of icons like the picture below, which means all those programs are running on your system.

How to close the (bunch of) Running Programs:
Go to START > RUN and type MSCONFIG on run command then press ENTER.
A window like below will be opened.

Click and open the STARTUP tab and remove the tick marks from the box for the programs those not to be run at the time of start-up. But leave the tick marks as it was for the programs such as anti-virus, and whatever the user is using for work. Hit OK button and reboot the system when asked.

After rebooting, there will be a little bit of improvement in performance of system. Now, do a full system scan and remove spy-ware, ad-ware etc., if found. If the system is saying again to re-start then follow its procedure to clean spy-ware, ad-ware etc.,

At this moment the system is working better than before and we've to go another process, which is called: de-fragmentation.

Double click MY COMPUTER icon from the desktop/menu bar. Select C drive and right click on it to open PROPERTIES.
Click TOOLS tab and choose DEFRAGMENT NOW. Defrag window will be opened and choose ANALYZE (for disk C). Now the system will be analyzing the bad sectors, errors and so on.

Note that the process timing, for defrag, is vary to systems, which depending on the disk size and how bad sectors bear with disk.

After the defrag process, it's necessary to do Disk Clean Up, which is in the GENERAL tab on the same picture above. Never remove any OFFICE SET UP files, if you've seen in General tab. Select only the files, which needed to be cleaned, then press OK.

So, these process is enough to boost a system and it should be applied once in a month. After doing all these process, if the system doesn't has any improvement, then it might be in need of more physical memory or the processor is slow.

A system having minimum of RAM 256 MB with 1.6 GHz processor will run good.
